MBR ACRES UK

MBR Acres is the UK’s leading supplier of dogs for animal research. Every year they sell around 2,000 beagle puppies to laboratories, where they are cut apart or poisoned to death. MBR also have a ‘terminal bleeding’ licence, which allows them the bleed healthy dogs to death to harvest their blood and organs for sale to the industry.

Aside from staff, the only people allowed entry are Home Office Inspectors, usually former animal researchers themselves (the current chief inspector, Kate Chandler, has tested on rats and other animals). Industry whistle-blowers face up to two years in jail under the Animals in Scientific Procedures Act. Inspection reports are only available via Freedom of Information Act requests. They reveal various issues, such as underqualified vets, fly infestations, avoidable health issues resulting in euthanasia, lack of bedding, and dogs bled to death at the wrong age. The Home Office refuses to release the latest Inspectors report. What are they hiding?

MBR EUROPE

In 2012, activists rescued 40 dogs from MBR’s Italian facility, Green Hill, exposing conditions inside. Judges ordered Green Hill to close and handed 3,000 dogs to activists for re-homing. Green Hill had killed over 6,000 dogs in four years, often by inducing heart attacks. MBR’s European Director and two of her collegues were sent to jail for 18 months.

MBR USA

During a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspection in 2015, dogs at MBR’s New Jersey facility were found living in their own faeces. Dog pens at MBR in NJ were infested with flies, and the USDA cited them again. in 2016. They have received over 20 citations since 2004, with dogs found in freezers and puppies killed in front of one another. This is an industry-wide proplem; MBR’s major competitor Envigo has recently had several dog breeding establishments closed under federal investigation in the USA.

MBR ASIA

In 2012, 70 dogs from MBR’s Chinese facility were seized in India. MBR falsely listed the dogs as ‘pets’ on customs forms. In reality, they were headed for invasive research by pharma company Advinus. The airline seized the dogs and released them to animal rights campaigners for re-homing.

MBR’S CUSTOMERS

MBR supplies the entire animal research industry. Most dogs are used in toxicology experiments. These are designed to ‘prove’ that toxic products are safe and are why we have crossed the planetary boundary for chemical pollution. The tests, in which healthy dogs are poisoned to death, can be for anything from pharmaceuticals to agrochemicals, refrigerant gasses, or paint.

In 2019, a German laboratory (LPT) was exposed for horrific cruelty. Undercover footage showed extreme violence, including dogs supplied by MBR lying in their own blood and faeces. The laboratory was closed down but quietly allowed to reopen some months later. It is believed MBR continue to supply them with dogs.

HOW TO PROTEST

The information contained here is intended to help you take action to save the dogs inside MBR Acres. Please don’t wait for others to act, or organise for you. These dogs need you; no one is listening to their screams, but if you’re loud enough, people will listen to yours.

HOW TO PROTEST

However you choose to protest is entirely up to you. While we ask that any information you find on this site is used for lawful protest only, there are countless ways to have your voice heard, and it’s important we all take action in the way that makes the most sense to us. If you’re not sure where to start, here are some suggestions:

  • Firstly, politely contact the companies listed here by email, phone, social media, post, or in person. Explain the situation at MBR Acres, and their role in allowing such a terrible company to remain operational. Stay respectful and polite; it makes it more likely they will listen, and there’s every chance the person you speak to will agree with you.
  • If you feel you’ve been ignored, consider staging a protest. Initially, it’s worth focusing your attention on the company itself. If you can speak to someone senior at the firm, that should be your aim. If this fails, give the information to as many staff members as possible, and make sure it is clear to everyone in neighbouring buildings, and passers-by, why you are there. No one wants their company associated with killing puppies!
  • Listed below are several organisations who may be able to provide you with leaflets posters etc… or alternatively you can make your own. If you have access to editing software, you can make leaflets and posters and get them printed online. Alternatively you can cut and paste them using a photocopier.
  • Banners can be made simply with an old bed sheet and a can of spray paint (make sure you put something under the sheet so the paint doesn’t mark the surface underneath!).
  • Megaphones are a brilliant way to amplify your voices and can be purchased easily from the internet. Whistles, air horns, and horns are also great for drawing an extra bit of attention.

The following organisations all campaign to close MBR Acres:

Animal Rebellion

Beagle Freedom Project UK

Camp Beagle

Free the MBR Beagles

Please note: while we support all of these campaigns, we are not affiliated with any of them.
